an immersive sound dérive elaborated for the art residency nart. an audio piece presented on water, gathering testimonies and soundscapes of kulgu-narva, a russian-speaking border town of estonia during the hot summer days. the piece was conceived to be listened while navigating through kulgu’s boat garages, narvas’s basin, and the datchas with self-built saunas, where the residents of narva enjoy spending their time. 

during a series of boat rides, the sounds of the summer re-inhabited the physical place and triggered the imagination of the listeners. a sound collage inspired by the soundscapes, the transmission towers across the landscape, and the voices of the people that love this unique spot caught by the tension of the war. located next to a russian hydroelectric power plant; an immense abandoned textile factory; and estonia’s biggest thermal power plant. 

the project materialized after living on the site for weeks, and it is an ode to the peculiar spot and its people.
