archivo biocultural vivo
radio cocina colaboratorio
Mexico, 2021-2022
As part of the Cocina Colaboratorio collective, we designed the Archivo Biocultural Vivo (Biocultural Living Archive): a tool of expanded museography, itinerant, and collective. A platform for knowledge-making, knowledge-sharing, to rethink heritage as a political tool —to protect territories, the use of land, recipes, agro-biodiversity and ancestral practices. In three locations of mexico: Loma Bonita, Chiapas; Santo Domingo Tomaltepec, Oaxaca; and Xochimilco, CDMX.
Exhibitions of the archivo biocultural vivo, following the principles of critical museology, were held on the three sites of the project and in the Luis Nishizawa Gallery at the Faculty of Arts and Design, UNAM, in Mexico City.
Through the sound platform of radio cocina colaboratorio the living archive was expanded with the inclusion of: stories, audio-recipes, and mobile radio transmissions. During the on-site presentations the audios emerged from clay seeds inspired by the stories themselves, made by the studio Agua de Río.
As a form of poetic dissemination the audio-stories were also spread for one day around the old center of Xochimilco, on board of pedicabs, re-occupying in this way the now little concrete alleys that were once part of the canal's network system.
